Carel Fabritius’ The Goldfinch: A Painting in Flight
Join us for an evening of art, food and drink with Emilie Gordenker, Director of the Mauritshuis, and Adam Eaker, Assistant Curator of Northern European Painting at the Metropolitan Museum.
The American Friends of the Mauritshuis hosts a two-part lecture and discussion on The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius, a painting regarded as one of the Golden Age’s most iconic by an artist often recognized as the greatest of Rembrandt’s many pupils.
The presentations will explore the context and meaning of the world-renowned painting, its creator, and its role in the Mauritshuis collection as well as the broader cultural landscape today. How did this relatively small and deceptively simple object become one of the most renowned paintings in the world?
A reception with drinks and substantial hors d’oeuvres will follow the talks. The event is ticketed at $ 50, and proceeds will benefit the American Friends of the Mauritshuis and the Fulbright-AFMh Grant, awarded to an American graduate student in paintings conservation.
