Please join the American Friends of the Mauritshuis for a special lunchtime webinar on the topic of Johan Maurits and the Mauritshuis.

Featuring Mauritshuis Executive Director, Martine Gosselink, and Curator Lea van der Vinde, the discussion will spotlight the Mauritshuis’ new permanent display of 11 artworks – ten paintings and a sculpture – which recount the story of the museum’s founder, Johan Maurits, Dutch Brazil, and the history of the Mauritshuis as a building and museum.

This two-part presentation also includes a discourse on insights and current research projects that shed new light on Johan Maurits and the international slave trade. Ph.D. candidate Carolina Monteiro, and Assistant Professor Erik Odegard (both University of Leiden) highlight their work on the subject, giving further context and meaning to the Mauritshuis’ permanent installation.
